The Center for Advanced Aviation System Development's (CAASD's) main headquarters are located in McLean, Virginia, in the Washington DC metropolitan area. CAASD also operates an office in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, close to the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA’s) Technical Center.

McLean, Viginia

McLean, Virginia, is situated in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic region, just a few minutes from the headquarters of the Federal Aviation Administration. Nearby, a tremendous number of recreational, cultural, educational, and travel opportunities are offered.

  • Recreation
    Because of the proximity to beaches along the Atlantic, ski areas in Pennsylvania, and hiking trails in the Shenandoah Mountains, outdoor adventurers have their choice of recreational opportunities. Professional sports teams; including the Washington Redskins, Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles, Washington Wizards, and Washington Capitals, give sports enthusiasts the chance to see professional teams in action.

  • Culture
    With easy access to the 15 Smithsonian museums, the Kennedy Center, and abundant private theaters and galleries, cultural opportunities abound in the Washington DC area. Epicureans will appreciate the vast choice of restaurants specializing in cuisine from all parts of the world. The array of dance and music clubs are sure to satisfy the music lover.

  • Education
    For those pursuing advanced degrees while working at MITRE, the DC area is also home to a number of outstanding colleges and universities. Employees participating in the MITRE tuition reimbursement program have attended these universities: George Mason, Georgetown, George Washington, American, and Johns Hopkins.

  • Transportation
    A regional subway system provides service throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area. Three major airports and extensive train service give residents many travel opportunities.

    Take advantage of our local beaches to relax and soak up the sun. If you’re a sports enthusiast you can catch a semi-professional baseball game with the Atlantic City Surfs. About an hour drive from here, located in Philadelphia, you can also see professional sports teams such as Philadelphia's Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and Seventy Sixers. Try your luck or catch live entertainment in one of ten casinos located in Atlantic City. Visit the Cape May County Park and Zoo, home to over 85 species of animals, or visit the newly-built Ocean Life Center Marine Life Museum and Aquarium located in Atlantic City at Gardner’s Basin.

  • Culture
    Take a short drive to one of seventeen museums displaying fine art and folk art of South Jersey. Step back in time with a visit to the Towne of Historic Smithville, where you will find quaint shops and fine dining. Enjoy a Broadway Show at one of the many theatres located in Philadelphia, or visit the South Jersey Gateway Playhouse, which offers plays by local theatre companies.

  • Education
    For those pursuing their advanced education while working at MITRE, the Atlantic City area offers a number of colleges and universities. Employees participating in the MITRE tuition reimbursement program have many schools to choose from: Drexel University, Cape Atlantic Community College, Stockton College, and Camden County College.

  • Transportation
    Explore vacation possibilities with the Atlantic City International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport. With Amtrak, you can hop a train in Atlantic City to many destinations.
